Because most people use art as a hobby not a job. Also art doesnt take a lot of time. I have a friend who can make a perfectly fine drawing (he can only draw buildings and whatnot he works in the building modeling business) in less then an hour.

So please dont go on a tirade about how artists have to be paid because half of the ones on the internet just do it for a hobby not their job. If it's your JOB as in you dont do anything on the side then alright fine.

It's not like sketches are difficult.

I'm a professional artist, and for anything more than a simple sketch, yes, it does take a lot of time.

And even if it just a hobby it doesn't mean they can't want compensation for their time and effort.

yeah, even though I never went professional, I would expect payment for what I had done (I was a fiber artist--weaving etc, just setting up a loom can take hours, not including time spent picking out yarns, winding bobbins, and the actual weaving---and then the finishing!).
LOTS of people have jobs on the side (INCLUDING artists)....why this would make your primary job less of a JOB I have no idea (my husband does IT for a JOB, and has a job in IT on the side--is he not considered an IT specialist because of said side job now????).

I would love to be at the level of competence to get paid for my art--I appreciate and empathize with artists who are struggling to prove that art is really a JOB....

Been there, done that. Had that happen once or twice at Roosevelt this year. Hotter than all get out and I'm in my slacks and nice shirt standing by a projector which is giving off at on of heat as well. So difficult to do because NO ONE wants to pay attention.

what is "art" art is nothing you can label.

I just was at a guide for food, no idea what they are called, well she measured me around chest, legs etc. when we talked, she kept looking at the papers to write, i "accidently" looked at her cleavage all the time, she did look very very cute.

On a side note, why are you discussing art?

people here where i live are always complaining about it not raining enough... and i just had a convo with the mail lady about this very same topic... i always tell those whiny people this, "don't you realize we have a 96% humidity rate... and two days after it rains we are swarmed with massive mosquitoes..." i would rather exchange no rain for disease filled bugs all over the place

Nah, that's too troublesome to me

Most art is crap either way though.

ugly things can be art, nice looking things can be art, stupid looking things can be art, it's like the word "creative" it's just a word people use when they can not put it in a category.
